Legacy Heritage President, Mrs. Consuelo Bradley
Introducing Mrs. Consuelo Bradley, the driving force behind Legacy Heritage Nonprofit - a beacon of hope and change in the heart of Montgomery Alabama. A native of the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois Mrs. Bradley embodies the essence of her name, "Consuelo," which means comfort in Spanish, as she tirelessly works to bring comfort and solace to individuals in need. In 2020 amidst the challenges to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mrs. Bradley envisioned a brighter future for her community. Thus Legacy Heritage was born with a mission to empower individuals and communities through education, health initiatives and social programs. Striving to create lasting impact by fostering self-sufficiency, promoting equity and building a brighter future for all by leading the way in developing green spaces for public gardens and meeting places. These sanctuaries not only provide solace amid uncertainty but also serve as vital hubs for social interaction, wellness activities and educational initiatives. Driven by a deep commitment to social change and community empowerment, Mrs. Bradley leads Legacy Heritage with compassion and vision. Her leadership is characterized by relentless pursuit of equity, justice and sustainability, reflecting the core values of the organization.
Since our inaugural event January 2020 to announce our plans to beautify the northside, residents of Newtown and other areas of District 3 participated in our food drives, community rallies and wellness drives. The community garden’s groundbreaking ceremony was covered by The Montgomery Advertiser and attendees expressed enthusiasm about the future garden. Elite Event Planning LLC and Elite Tax Consultant are the Montgomery based corporations that fund a combined 55% of the annual total operating costs of Legacy Heritage. Legacy Heritage, although operating for just one year, has already received support through the Revive Alabama grant program and generous donations from community organizations including the Montgomery Junior League. The garden is now under construction on a 2/3-acre lot undeveloped land. Acme Bricks of Montgomery has donated a supply of bricks and mortar to build our garden beds. Future includes training restaurants and other food related entities how to implement our COVID Careful Campaign into their business models, which includes conversion to outdoor selling options such as food trucks and pull carts. We have already procured land in District 3’s warehouse district.
As Legacy Heritage continues to make strides in combating COVID-19 and it's after effects of food insecurity, disparaging nutrition, lack of basic sustainable gardening skills and the ever widening generation wealth gap, Mrs. Bradley remains steadfast in her dedication to the mission. Looking ahead, the nonprofit aims to expand it's impact by launching innovative programs that address pressing community needs. Future development plans include the creation of additional green spaces, the implementation of health and wellness initiatives and the establishment of educational programs to empower individuals and families.
